Can someone enlighten me on how their business could actually make money?

Considering the iNet penetration still at 3.5%, I don’t see a repeat of NetFlix here. The logistics just like everything else is overpriced in India. Knockoff DVDs are sold cheaply for those titles that are not already covered by Moserbaer.

So how are these guys able to raise so much money? Congratulations to them. I feel for the Limited Partners

I am not sure if Vajpeyi has made his fortune as stated by you. Of the 21 cr that he is supposed to earn, 11 cr will be used to retire a debt in his name.

That leaves him 10 cr in hand. If the investment was 2 cr - very good - if the investment was 5 cr. then it certainly does not qualify as a fortune.

I think Mckinsey has done the best job in tapping the best talent in India - and hence PE shops are looking at it as a talent hub.

Mintoo has been a small cap investor for quite some time, and think was doing more VC style investing - so wonder how he will transition to the bigger sized deals.

Interesting news about Apollo today having a net IRR of 40 odd percent since inception, and lowering it to 30 odd percent given recent write-downs. Still an amazing return profile.
