Motorola Acquires Indian-Founded Digital Music Company Soundbuzz
Mobile phone manufacturer Motorola, Inc. has acquired India-founded digital music service provider Soundbuzz Pte. Ltd. The terms of the transaction are not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008. Soundbuzz, headquartered in Singapore, was started in 1999 by Sudhanshu Sarronwala, a former MTV Asia executive.
The acquisition of Soundbuzz will allow Motorola to expand its MOTOMUSIC service beyond China, into India, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, a release said. Soundbuzz has about 750,000 tracks in its library. As a 90 percent of all digital music content in Asia is sold via mobile channels, the release added, the acquisition will help Motorola access this growth opportunity.
Soundbuzz’s multi-region music delivery platform enables the purchase and distribution of digital content through over-the-air and wired broadband connections. The company also has subscriber management, content management, payment, client software and media delivery technologies.
